If you’re about to restore your oral health with a root canal in Bedford, Texas, then it’s important to properly recover following treatment. If you don’t properly heal, additional complications can occur, which can be a nightmare. So, to help you take good care of your tooth and oral health, our dental team encourages you to do the following things:

Take prescribed medications

Medications will help you relieve the soreness and discomfort you might feel after the treatment, so make sure you take the prescribed medications as suggested. If you have not received any prescribed medications, you can take over-the-counter medication, like Advil or Motrin.

Avoid using that tooth

We strongly recommend that you avoid using the treated tooth if your doctor has not yet filled it with a dental filling or covered it with a dental crown. Chewing with this tooth could cause recontamination or infection.

Brush and floss

It is best that you brush and floss your teeth like you normally would. That way, your smile remains healthy, strong, and clean, and it has the best chance at having a full recovery.

Rest

It is generally recommended that you rest at least 24 hours after root canal treatment. However, if your doctor recommends longer rest time, please follow her directions.

If you would like specific instructions from your doctor, please feel free to call and schedule an appointment with Dr. Gemma Dalton. We will be happy to help you if you simply call 817-571-1667 today!
