What is a dental crown?
A dental crown is a dental restoration that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. A dental crown, which is tooth shaped, is cemented permanently in place.
When is a dental crown needed?
Dr. Gemma Dalton may recommend a dental crown in Bedford, Texas, in situations in which a tooth needs to be supported, have its shape restored, or have its appearance improved. A dental crown may be suggested to:
– Protect a tooth with a big filling
– Protect a weak tooth from breaking
– Restore a broken tooth
– Anchor a dental bridge
– Restore a dental implant post
– Improve the appearance of a discolored or badly shaped tooth
– Support a tooth that has had root canal therapy
What should I expect during treatment?
The tooth receiving the dental crown will first be altered to allow room for the dental crown in your mouth. An impression will then be taken of the tooth and the surrounding teeth so that the dental crown can be custom made. When the dental crown is ready, our dentist will check the fit. After any necessary tweaks are made, the dental crown will be cemented into place.
